On the recordJuly 13, 1995
I appreciate the question, Mr. Chairman. I would say to the gentleman that I also am a strong, strong supporter of the Main Street program. It affects 17 cities in the State of Arkansas, and it does a wonderful job and I fully support that. I would hope that the Trust would prioritize their funds so that program is not touched. We are talking about less than 10 percent of their operating budget. Mr. Chairman, I would hope that what we would jeopardize would be things like $700,000 for the legal department of $700,000 for lobbying, entertainment, and catering, that those would be the things that would be cut instead of good quality programs that are helping our cities like the Main Street program. However, at this point, Mr. Chairman, I think the appropriate thing to do would be to support the amendment, to send a message that we do not want taxpayer-funded lobbying.
