“I also want to thank the many stakeholder groups that have worked so hard on this bill: the Leadership Council, the Legal Defense Fund, the NAACP, the Lawyers' Committee, the AFL-CIO, MALDEF, and so many more. As we prepare to take this vote, let us be guided by our north star, that is our wonderful colleague, our beloved colleague, John Lewis, who reminds us each and every day that the price of freedom is not free. It has been bought and paid for by the courage of ordinary Americans who dared to make this Nation live up to its ideals of equality and justice for all. Let us recommit ourselves to restoring the promise of voter equality and pass H.R. 4 today.”
