We have received a statement from the Executive Office of the President, which arrived here today, concerning this legislation; and I want to read from it. It says the administration strongly supports House passage of H.R. 2622. The bill includes many of the administration's proposed consumer protections, including new tools to help fight identity theft. The national credit reporting system has proven critical to the resilience of consumer spending and the overall economy. That is one thing we heard over and over, that the national credit reporting system was essential to maintain the overall economy and consumer spending. So I am pleased that Chairman Oxley has received this important endorsement from the President. It has been said that I was the author of this legislation, and, in fact, I would sort of like to claim that, but it is truly a bipartisan bill.
