There was no intention of staying at the 50 parts per billion, which had been the standard throughout the previous administration. They have said they needed to review the science and listen to the communities that would be affected, and also take into account, as the Senator from New Mexico has proposed, the extraordinary hardships that meeting this standard would impose upon many small communities, with the possibility that the shutdown of those small community water systems would impose a far greater danger on the inhabitants.
