“I think it is time we had some good policy, because in the past this body, with the active involvement of the Presidents of the United States, has run up a $5 trillion debt, almost $18,000 for every man, woman, and child in this country. We are in the process of threatening the disability of our Government budget and the economy of this country as a whole if we do not pass a budget that responsibly gets us on a path to balance in the near future. The budget resolution before us proposes to do that. It is a difficult budget. It is not easy, but I believe it is one that merits support.”
