I thank both Senators from Tennessee for raising this important project. I would note that both Senators from Tennessee wrote me earlier this year expressing their strong support for funding in the fiscal year 1997 appropriation for the VA. Unfortunately, we were unable in the committee to provide the funds needed to complete this project since a decision was made to limit VA construction funds to outpatient projects, cemetery projects, and research facilities. However, I note that both Senators have been strong advocates for this project, and that funding for this project will be an issue in conference with the House on the VA-HUD appropriations bill.
