Next Tuesday, the representation of the people bill returns to the Commons.

As a democrat, and as a socialist, I don’t think it's right to use this process and especially negative SIs to avoid parliamentary scrutiny and debate, because all laws benefit from good scrutiny.

That is why I have proposed an amendment to the bill – new clause 120 – that would introduce an immediate £500,000 annual cap on donations, falling to £100,000 in the following calendar year.
