“I have discussed this with the minority leader. I gave a similar plan, and I said it is not so much whether it is this plan or that plan, we must have a single select committee. We thought about a standing committee, and we said: No, that is going too far. You know and I know that if you tread on the turf of an important committee chairman, they will say no to the leadership. That is precisely what has happened. I am not going to get specific, but we have been working on this for 6 months to a year, and if we just get into personalities and turf fights, there ought to be a way to work this out.
