I would worry about any mum feeling pressurised that there is somehow a kind of an ideal birth experience to live up to.

I will face numerous challenges in the role, including getting NHS waiting lists in England down, improving relations with senior doctors and making progress on social care.

We know Britain will face heatwaves like this with increasing frequency and increasing intensity. So we have to take the health consequences much more seriously, so that everyone is ready when they come.

I want to make it a personal crusade to put the cradle back at the heart of the NHS.
