The IRA failed to achieve its political ends through the use of terrorist tactics. We must be exceptionally careful that we do not help them achieve those ends through other means.

We have the ideas, we have the talent, but we need the courage and leadership to deliver them. That's what comes next.

I resigned in June because I did not believe the defence funding on the table was adequate for the threats this country faces. I said so publicly and I still stand by every word.

The reality is we are spending too much time preparing for last year’s war, not tomorrow’s.
