Drawing a line under the disruption was good news for resident doctors, patients and the NHS as a whole.

We know from review after review that wrongdoing is being covered up and that bullying towards staff who try to sound the alarm is rife.

It is a positive and welcome development - especially for patients - that the BMA have called off these unnecessary strikes.

I’m disappointed that, despite having those conversations about how to improve other aspects of the deal, that the strikes are still set to go ahead, and I would urge them, even today, to continue that conversation with us about the other…
