Just last year we passed the 21st Century Cures Act that this committee drafted and passed unanimously to help boost the resources of the Food and Drug Administration and encourage the development of new treatments.

Congress has come together under the leadership of both Democrats and Republicans to pass this important bipartisan legislation.

For my constituents in North Carolina, developing new treatments can literally make the difference between life and death.

Now is the time to come together to support the FDA. Our constituents are counting on us, my colleagues, to work together in this space.

There still are not enough votes to pass this particular bill.

It is my understanding that the number of community banks that now exist is at the lowest number since prior to the Great Depression in 1928.

But my concern is that if the consumer demand is there, which it is, in fact, it is probably there more now than it has been in the last 8 years, and yet where are the consumers going to go?

I am hopeful that the new Administration will continue efforts to roll back these regulations.
