Well, you know, what I hear from my colleagues I just don't think they want people that look like me counted.

I think even to carry the debt so that you can effectively respond to COVID is critically important.

I mean, what I am hearing from my colleagues is shortening the time, it is OK because brown and Black folks are not going to get counted.

Do you think people that look like you and I are going to--I mean, that it is intentional on the part of the--reducing the timeline that it is intentional to make sure that people that look like you and I are not counted?

When the nation gets a cold, Detroit gets pneumonia.

It is the State and local governments that are on the front lines.

Rashida, we got to make sure we get counted because we know these are thousands of dollars that come to our city that gets, you know, again not--we don't get access to it when we don't get counted.

we spent more money for billionaires and millionaires than even on the stimulus payment that we gave for our neighbors across the nation.

I actually think that if folks look at the billions of dollars--I believe it is close to $300 billion--that we used to bail out millionaires and billionaires.

So that technology disruption obviously has had a pretty dramatic impact on my community.

I live in the salad bowl of the world because of it.

I very much appreciate you holding this hearing. It is a very interesting and, I think, obviously very important topic.

I believe the federal government has a critical role to play in helping oversee and scale up these investments.

I hope my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will continue to join me in advocating for real funding for those two bills.

I am, however, deeply concerned that many institutions may not survive, that years of important research will be lost.
