Does the industry see, as you grow and we find more supporters of all the above or most of the above, that you will have to diversify and reach out to Hispanic, historically-Black, and redo your workforce?

The forest products industry employs almost 900,000 people across the country, not including jobs directly supporting the industry.

I'm also concerned about the administration's rhetoric regarding the strategic importance of the region.

These communities rely on us to be good stewards of these Federal lands. The people who live in those communities depend on well-managed National Forests to foster jobs and economic opportunity.

I look forward to a productive discussion on how we can be certain the Forest Service is doing everything within reason to produce a stronger rural America.

opening statement

Good morning, everyone. This hearing of the Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy, and Forestry to discuss the National Forest management and its impacts on rural economies and communities, will come to order.

Forestry plays an important role in the rural economy. The forest product industry employs almost 900,000 people across the country not including jobs directly supporting the industry, and in 2012, the forest products industry had an economic impact approaching $190 billion.

The risks to millions of people, and indeed geopolitics are too important for anything less.

Spiraling escalating cost and depreciating the quality of coverage might end.

I believe that one of our pathways to success is whether or not we can convince these individuals, whether they are benign, whether they happen to be in the category of cerebral persons who want to be stimulated, that they need to work with us.

Employers in several Districts cited the unknown effects of the Affordable Care Act as reasons for planned layoffs and reluctance to hire more staff.

I believe that the mandate helps put smaller businesses on a more competitive footing with large firms.

The Affordable Care Act attempts to do is increase access to the millions of uninsured Americans while slowing the growth of health care.

In today's sluggish economy, with depressed wages, and millions of Americans who simply cannot find work, the federal government should be encouraging businesses to grow and expand and hire more people.

Obamacare has multiple, detrimental effects on American workers.
