I appreciate the opportunity to appear and testify today, and I thank the Committee for soliciting projects that will have a transformative impact on our nation, including the Northwest Indiana economy.

We must ensure that American-made goods are used in taxpayer-financed infrastructure as our Nation continues to move ahead to full economic recovery.

I am proud to work with the Department of Transportation and any other stakeholders to ensure that our request to speed I-69 completion is using taxpayer dollars responsibly and conforming to all relevant laws and authorities.

As I have mentioned, this will not only save lives, but will stimulate economic activity across the central part of the United States.

We are supporting eldercare, caregiving economy, making it easier to age in place and have community-based care because having that kind of care infrastructure in place is part of what makes it possible for Americans to thrive.

Americans actually like this package even more when you explain how we’re going to pay for it.

As we’ve learned, just because something has huge bipartisan support among the American people, doesn’t mean the same thing is going to happen here in Washington.

You can’t separate climate from transportation because transportation is the single biggest sector contributing to greenhouse gases in our economy.

Well, we`re talking about roads and bridges, rail and transit, airports and ports. I don`t know why anybody would say it`s a mistake to invest in the grid after what we just witnessed in Texas.

The biggest things I`m hearing are some different views on how to pay for it. But the president`s view is clear, which is that no one making less than $400,000 should pay anything more in taxes for this.

The president has put forward a vision that has support from the American people, Republicans and Democrats, a lot of mayors from both parties.

We have to get it done. But we want to get it done in a way that is bipartisan and that takes a lot of ideas on board.
