I am disappointed that in announcing this hearing, my Republican colleagues decided to make this hearing part of a multiple phase plan to impeach or smear the President and the Secretary of Homeland Security.

The border crisis has facilitated an immigration crisis in the United States and has allowed criminal cartels to sprout--to prosper by exploiting the most vulnerable individuals.

The purpose of today's hearing is to examine how transnational criminal organizations commit incalculable horrors and disregard for human life in their trafficking schemes.
