Climate change has increased the severity and frequency of wildfires and other natural disasters.

I want to thank Chair Peters for holding this hearing. It is really important as natural disasters have been occurring more frequently all around the country and all around the world.

I have been fighting for increased funding to mitigate our current wildfires and prevent further catastrophes.

We are hoping that we are going to be able to pass some legislation that will create permanent, year-round positions for wildland firefighters.

So just so I can clarify, so my colleagues who are refusing to come to the table to address this, they are getting the benefit of that relief in their States, however.

There is still an industry that was so hard hit that it is still trying to recover from this pandemic, which is that hospitality, that travel and tourism industry.

At the end of the day, at least for the people in my State, it is about the truth and the facts and people working together and what is happening in this country during this pandemic.

I want to build on what Senator Kaine really was talking about.

This proposal is not only dangerous, it's unrealistic.

We support your ports. We have other things, other ways we get our goods into Nevada.

For Nevadans, the transportation of hazardous waste to our state by road and rail is something we've been fighting since the 1980s.

I just think that there'd be broad support to be sure that we make any train carrying nuclear waste, hazardous waste be the safest trains that there are.

This is a terrific hearing. It could not be more timely.
