The positive momentum observed in the first seven months of this year builds on strong figures for 2024 and 2025 combined, when a total of 85,723 new homes were commenced - an increase of 43% compared with the combined total for the previous two-year period (2022 and 2023).

As Minister for Housing, I am treating this with urgency and I want people out of homelessness services as rapidly as possible, particularly children.
I am genuinely appalled that the type of contact we are hearing about happening would be made in the first place to any public representative, but then for it to be in any way targeted at our female elected members is unacceptable.
This is about bringing a sensible approach where people can reasonably be able to build a home in their own local community, but also respecting the climate.
This is going to be implemented and will be implemented in time for the next local elections.
