It shouldn't have taken the government five-and-a-half years to get to this point.
And secondly, it shouldn't have taken the prompting of the Trump administration for the government to have taken action.
A recession has been often defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth, and so on that definition, Canada is in a recession.
The government of Canada is not a private investment bank. It's a government whose finances are to be public. And Mr. Carney needs to be a lot more transparent about the spending he's announced in recent months.
