You can floor cross. You just have to make the case to your constituents, and if you think you have good reasons for it, you’ll get a mandate from voters. If you don’t, then you won’t.

When a parliamentarian crosses the floor to join a different party than they were elected with, they are unilaterally — at the very least — altering the will of their electorate.
The Prime Minister has admitted that emissions will rise under its energy plan, yet his government is running ads claiming it will lower them.
