In terms of Venezuela, we are working with our mission in Bogota, Colombia, to ensure that the approximately 800 Canadians who are registered there have the support that they need.

Our priority is to locate Canadians and permanent residents and confirm their safety while offering support wherever and whenever possible.

The underlying way in which these private sector links will grow is through Canadian companies operating across the African continent, showing by example that it is profitable to be here.

I have asked our diplomats to do, and in fact what I am doing myself, is to say wherever we are in the world, let’s ensure that we’re advocating for Canadian commercial interests.
