“Mr. Speaker, I rise today on behalf of the Congressional Progressive Caucus to talk about the engine of our economy--the American worker. The American worker is known for their ingenuity, their work ethic, their drive, and their ability to get things done faster, better, and more efficiently than our competition. But also, unfortunately, the American worker is working harder than ever and they still aren't getting ahead. The obstacles facing our workforce have never been greater. Too many people are still unemployed or underemployed, too few possess 21st century skills needed by employers, and the workforce protections fought for by generations are under attack like never before.
