What I cannot do, with all due respect, is support the entire increase that Chairman Waxman has just outlined of 11.4 percent this year and 10 percent next year.
Joe Barton
The Public Record
Joe Barton is a former Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Texas's 6th congressional district from 1985 to 2019. During his tenure, Barton served as the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he played a significant role in shaping energy policy and telecommunications legislation. He was known for his advocacy of fossil fuel interests and his support for deregulation in the energy sector.
I certainly commend Chairman Waxman for trying to alleviate some of the suffering of the staff relocation.
I would look at it and see if there's something that is patently not needed, sure.
I think the energy bill that we passed is a good piece of legislation.
But we are questioning the judgment of the Justice Department of the United States of America who seems to think they can thumb its nose at the Congress of the United States. And that will not happen.
