We have discussed that, but a number of small community banks said, 'We are going to get left off this system. It is going to hurt our net revenue.'
Jeb Hensarling
The Public Record
Jeb Hensarling is a former Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Texas's 5th congressional district from 2003 to 2019. During his tenure, he served as the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, where he played a significant role in shaping financial regulation and policy. Hensarling was known for his advocacy of free-market principles and his opposition to the Dodd-Frank Act, which was enacted in response to the 2008 financial crisis.
I thank the gentleman for yielding. Mr. Chairman, if we want to have jobs today, if we want to protect our children from bankruptcy tomorrow, we've got to quit spending money we don't have. There is a debt crisis in America, and it is…
I do still find it somewhat ironic, somewhat perplexing, and somewhat amusing that we ended up passing the entire Dodd-Frank Act before we even had the conclusions of the Commission in the first place.
I certainly think the establishment of this Commission was an important act.
I think we could all agree that the taxpayer should no longer be on the hook for losses, and that reforms to the housing finance are long overdue.
I was hopeful we could move as a Commission to the fundamental causes and understand them. We got side-railed in a partisan, political way.
if you want to bet on conspiracy versus incompetency, incompetency wins every time.
I think it is sad that such an important work is hard to take seriously when it was conducted on such a partisan basis.
You did say in the report you determined government housing policies were not a significant factor in the crisis.
I think the gentleman makes a good argument. I hope you can find a better way to run a railroad because I think again we are dealing with trillions of dollars.
