George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
The enduring spirit of liberty can never be crushed by the cruel hand of tyranny and enslavement.
I appreciate Germany's strong financial and other support for the multinational coalition in the Persian Gulf.
History will show that those American women who served in the recent struggle to liberate Kuwait helped not only to deter ruthless aggression but also to build a new world order based on respect for human rights and the rule of law.
Today women continue to defend and promote the ideals on which this Nation is founded.
During Women's History Month we celebrate the many unique and vital contributions that women have made to our Nation.
I urge all Americans to join in appropriate ceremonies and activities in honor of the Greek people and Greek independence.
May God bless the families of all those soldiers that we lost in action.
