George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
I shall continue to exercise the powers at my disposal to retain the export control system.
What he and his troops did for the morale of the United States of America is unbelievable.
I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities designed to promote greater understanding of ecological issues.
America's forests are an integral part of the global ecosystem and one of this Nation's greatest natural resources.
Operation Provide Comfort has become the largest U.S. relief effort mounted in modern military history.
And so, through the Kennedy Center, we resolve that our arts and our nation will, indeed, flourish forever.
I intend to nominate Lieutenant General Carl E. Mundy, Jr., to be Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Today Americans of all ages are setting an example of environmental stewardship by participating in the America the Beautiful Program.
