George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
As the elected officials out there hearing the needs of day-to-day, ordinary people, you understand those problems.
We're supporting those who are for democracy, whoever they are, wherever they are, in whatever Republic they are and in the center.
It's not for the United States to dictate these matters, but we do have interests, some of which I've mentioned here.
We're going to try in the State of the Union Message to make a proposal that won't make matters worse out of good intentions but will make them better.
I emphasized once again our general support for democratic and economic reforms.
I have signed into law H.R. 3435, the 'Resolution Trust Corporation Refinancing, Restructuring, and Improvement Act of 1991.'
I invite all Americans to observe that day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
