It is clear that the Federal Government has not delivered on its trust and treaty promises to Indian Country.
[W]e have a tendency to think about dark days like Wounded Knee as in the ancient past, and we focus so much on those who died, those who were killed, those who were murdered that day, but we also have with us Cedric Broken Nose, who is a descendent. . .and I think it is an important reminder to us that this history wasn't that long ago, and that one of the reasons that it is important for us to honor this site is that there are still real living connections to the difficult, to the terrible, actions that were taken that day.
We urge Congress to quickly pass this bill and respectfully ask President Biden to sign it into law.

I applaud Congresswoman Stefanik for her leadership supporting important historic preservation programs, including sponsoring HR3448.
But, today, Mr. Chairman, I appreciate the agenda, I appreciate the things you and Mr. Neguse have brought forward, and I also appreciate very much the comments that were made that, as we tell our history, let's tell the truth.
