We have, during my brief tenure on this Committee, over and over again seen alarming, appalling leaks of classified information.
Sheldon Whitehouse
The Public Record
Sheldon Whitehouse is a United States Senator from Rhode Island, serving since January 4, 2007. A member of the Democratic Party, Whitehouse has focused on a range of issues including environmental protection, healthcare reform, and campaign finance reform. He has been a vocal advocate for addressing climate change and has worked to promote policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and protecting natural resources. Whitehouse has also been involved in efforts to reform the political campaign finance system, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in political donations.
It suggests to me that there is a significant lack of energy and interest within the intelligence community in truly policing this stuff.
My experience is that over and over and over again we've seen official secrecy used not for national security purposes but to mislead the public and to frame or more particularly mis-frame an outside political debate.
We in the Senate have the good fortune and privilege to be present at occasionally extraordinary moments.
I was touched and impressed. I know he's not here any longer, but I would like to say that for the record anyway.
The tainting--some would even say corruption--of the Department of Justice during the course of this administration has been both pervasive and systematic.
My information is that dispute does not extend to EPA. I think that the career people know pretty well what has happened to them in the last 8 years.
I think OMB was the political fixer for the Administration in the agency regulatory process in the past.
The entire agency process had in effect been a sham, that the result was willful ignorance triumphant.
It is really bad process to begin with. And then it ends up with really unfortunate results.
I would also advise you to watch out for OMB. We have received repeated evidence that OMB has become sort of the political bully boy influencing agency decisionmaking in very often I think inappropriate ways.
