On the eve of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 terrorist attacks on our Nation, the possibility of another attack still casts an ominous shadow over the United States.

As a Member of this committee, and a New Yorker, I would like to emphasize the importance of fully implementing the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.

The enormous devastation that would result if terrorists use a nuclear weapon or nuclear materials successfully in a terrorist act requires us to do all we can to prevent them from entering or moving through the United States.

I commend Director Stern, for his energetic efforts to produce the GNDA Strategy by the end of 2010, and for moving quickly on the Joint Annual Interagency Review that was delivered to us just a few weeks ago.

I am a Member of this committee because I want the rest of this country to learn from New York's experience.

The only question remaining is whether we have the will to solve them.

We live in a world where it seems that everything relies on computers and the internet.

We've come to recognize that public/private partnerships are a key component of securing our Nation's computer-reliant critical infrastructure.

Private-sector involvement is crucial, as it collectively owns the vast majority of the Nation's cyber infrastructure.

The danger of both unintentional and intentional cyber attack is real.

Let's protect our folks here at home.
