Chuck Schumer is an American politician serving as the senior United States senator from New York since 1999. A member of the Democratic Party, he has held the position of Senate Majority Leader since January 2021, making him one of the most prominent figures in the U.S. Senate. Schumer previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1999, representing New York's 9th congressional district. Throughout his career, he has focused on issues such as healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development, often advocating for policies that benefit working families and promote social justice.
It would be a blatant violation if someone did the same--a Democrat did the same thing on the liberal side.
I deeply appreciate his introduction, his presence, and his gracious and kind words about my abilities.
I want to assure this committee I appear here before you today with few delusions as to the difficulties that lie ahead.
I have been privileged to serve on that body's Armed Services Committee, and I know from personal experience the tremendous concern and effort each of you puts forth each and every day in support of the brave men and women of our military.
It will mean an end to waterboarding and other shameful forms of torture, and because it will mean a full return to the rule of law.
I want to thank you, Ranking Member McCain, and all of my colleagues for the honor--and it is a true honor for me--to support the nomination of John McHugh as Secretary for the U.S. Army.
I want to thank President Obama for the high honor and opportunity he has afforded me through this nomination.
John Michael McHugh is a nominee who is more than qualified for the post of Secretary of the Army for many reasons, but here are three in particular: patriotism, service, and leadership.
