Chuck Schumer is an American politician serving as the senior United States senator from New York since 1999. A member of the Democratic Party, he has held the position of Senate Majority Leader since January 2021, making him one of the most prominent figures in the U.S. Senate. Schumer previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1999, representing New York's 9th congressional district. We also want to thank our own Senator Schumer for shedding the light and putting a spotlight on the energy-efficiency issue.
Until we address the demand side of the energy equation in a meaningful way, we are not going to be able to put our Nation on the right path toward a new energy economy.
This bill, which I have introduced with Senator Sanders, would set a national goal for energy savings from retail electricity and natural gas distributors between 2012 through 2020.
