I think it is essential that the American people have the right to speak their minds in this area, and I hope that the bill I am sponsoring, with the cosponsorship of Congressman Kennedy, will be able to garner unanimous support here.

I am the sponsor the legislation in this regard, H.R. 5111, and I am pleased that you commented favorably upon it.
I want to work with others in the Congress on a program that helps senior citizens stay in their residences.
And Congressman Schrader and I are working together and I hope the panel will look at the proposal we have.
I commend you, Mr. Chairman and the other chairman, Mr. Walden, for this very important hearing.
I think it is the lowest it has been since at least 1980, something like that.
I want to thank Congressman Pallone who has worked on this issue over the course of the last more than a decade.
This is a bittersweet hearing for me. New Jersey lost more than 700 residents.
It seems to me that one of the main purposes of this hearing is to make sure that Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Public are aware of the recall, are able to be informed quickly as to whether their automobile is affected, one of 34 million inflators…
I find the response tendentious, argumentative, and not particularly helpful.
