Byron Dorgan is a former United States Senator from North Dakota, serving from 1992 to 2011 as a member of the Democratic Party. He was born on May 14, 1942. During his tenure in the Senate, Dorgan was known for his advocacy on issues such as agriculture, energy, and Native American rights. He played a significant role in promoting policies aimed at supporting rural communities and addressing the needs of tribal nations. Dorgan also served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, where he focused on improving the lives of Native Americans and addressing their concerns in federal policy.
I would like to thank Chairman Dorgan and Senator Murkowski and indeed, the entire Committee for all the hard work that they have done on behalf of the Indian people and the Indian health care system.
We are all disappointed that the House did not complete the job in 2008, but we are not discouraged.
Last year, through the yeoman efforts of you, Chairman Dorgan, and Senator Murkowski, a reauthorization bill was finally debated and approved by the Senate.
NIEA commends Chairman Dorgan for his tremendous efforts to ensure that Indian Country is included in the stimulus package.
We have worked together a lot on these projects, and I'm anxious to continue to work with you.
This would go a long way in expediting construction projects and ensuring the maximum number of workers in Indian country are put to work quickly.
The notion that there is fresh, unaccounted for Indian housing funding in HUD's account is simply not true.
