John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1961, until his assassination on November 22, 1963. A member of the Democratic Party, he was born in Massachusetts and is often remembered for his leadership during the Cuban Missile Crisis, which brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. Kennedy also established the Peace Corps, promoting international service and cooperation, and he advocated for civil rights, laying the groundwork for future legislation in this area.
Mr. Nixon keeps saying we are not part of the tradition of Jefferson, Jackson, and Woodrow Wilson.
The whole Louisiana Purchase, his decision to send Lewis and Clark to the Pacific - all that represented a change.
I don't think there is anyone in this country, Republican or Democratic, that would deny that the Republican Party has been and is on the whole a conservative party, and that the Democratic Party is a progressive party.
And they must also be brought into sharp and clear focus so that people abroad can gain added respect for America.
I hope that he will read those words and accept our invitation to a fifth debate and discuss these issues.
I look at the world around us and at our country, and I say this is a great country but it must be greater.
