it is one of the least safe major pieces of infrastructure to travel in the United States.

I would represent, having been here the last several years, that this Congress has not passed, and no President has signed, any single provision that has raised taxes for the last several years or the next two.
So, one could suggest, with a fair degree of certainty, that was it not for the insurance, and not for the payments, that the foreclosure rates would be higher than what they currently are?
In most places outside Washington, D.C., those would seem to be two wildly contradictory points.
It actually drove people off of health insurance, because of the increased state mandates, and in fact, 44 of 47 carriers left the state.
Let's assume that we do all of the things that Mr. Potter talked about earlier in terms of streamlining, staff reductions, but let's also assume that we do not pass H.R. 22.
We greatly appreciate the efforts of Representatives John McHugh and Danny Davis, who introduced H.R. 22.
We certainly share the Postmaster General's confidence in the future viability of the Postal Service, with help, obviously, from Congress as we have requested.
