I am currently developing legislation to improve the Bayh-Dole Act. One of my goals is to make sure whenever possible that taxpayer-funded R&D turns into American-made products and American jobs.
I hope to hear from our witnesses about what we can do better to give students from all backgrounds access to a high-quality education.
Time and time again we hear about how poorly our students are doing on math and science tests.
STEM education is of particular importance and interest to me, and is one of the reasons I was eager to join this Committee and Subcommittee.
I think the Common Core State Standards are going to help us ground our work in schools by saying that we are all focusing on the same thing.
In a global economy where nearly everything we do is based on math, science, and technology, these numbers are frightening.
I share his great concern about what is happening in America with STEM education and echo many of his concerns about what China is doing right now in threatening the United States and our economy.
