It is important that our Government will continue to respond to this humanitarian crisis, but also that we will make the respect for human rights across the globe a priority and not just an afterthought.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is a former U.S. Representative who served Florida's 18th congressional district from 1989 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, she was the first Hispanic woman elected to the U.S. Congress.
