I feel very strongly, if you ask yourself the question, how would you like your children treated if they had a different sexual orientation than their parents, the answer is yes. They ought to have that ability in civil unions.

Christopher Dodd is a former U.S. Senator from Connecticut, serving from 1981 to 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, Dodd was known for his work on issues such as health care, education, and financial regulation. He played a significant role in the passage of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which aimed to prevent the kind of financial crisis that occurred in 2008. Dodd also served as the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, where he was influential in shaping policies related to housing and banking.
I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. But my state of Connecticut, the state of New Hampshire, have endorsed civil unions. I strongly support that. But I don't go so far as marriage.
I said why would you want to include that kind of a provision into an election reform bill? Had no place in it. So, within hours or less than that, we rejected -- I rejected.
