I am proud to yield 4 minutes to the distinguished gentleman from Kentucky (Mr. Yarmuth), the ranking member on the Committee on the Budget, to discuss our proposal.

After being in office only a few weeks, President Trump and Secretary DeVos have actually increased the cost to student loan borrowers.

Frankly, the timing of the hearing is excellent.

I think we should have more concern than ever to simply put that change in statute rather than leave it up to the whim of the administration.

If we can increase it a little bit, it will help fund national labs, like the National Renewable Energies Laboratory.

I think this will be an excellent line item to cut, rather than give more pork to the oil and gas industry.

This is a line item with an expiration. It is a dead end in the sense that our fossil fuels will be depleted.

I would hope that the committee would, rather than invest in the past, invest in the future.

I would like to inquire if the gentleman from Texas (Mr. Sessions) has any remaining speakers?

If we fail to act on the Miners Protection Act by the end of April, miners who are not Medicare eligible... have been advised that they have the option of securing health insurance on the Affordable Care Exchange.

I joined on a bipartisan basis with Representative David McKinley and Representative Frederica Wilson in cosponsoring the Miners Protection Act, H.R. 179.

Today, 20,000 coal miners received notice that their retiree healthcare benefits will be cut off for 60 days when the Continuing Resolution expires.

There was no congressional authority for this program, no oversight for Congress.

I urge you to include language that would prevent the DEA from using resources to take action against regulated recreational or medicinal marijuana.

The DEA clearly has more pressing and urgent concerns.

This would create a lot of chaos in States like mine.

I encourage you to protect funding for science.

I appreciate your punctuality as well.

CTE is also critical for filling high-needs jobs.

Dual enrollment is one of the most successful education programs in Colorado, and it's breaking down barriers to accessing college for many low-income and first generation students.

In my home state of Colorado, career and technical education is receiving a renewed focus.

Today's hearing will examine the critical role of career and technical education (CTE) programs in preparing our nation's students, including those who are entering or coming from nontraditional pathways, for success in college and career.
