Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize Black April, a day to lament and reflect on the fall of Saigon. It has been over 49 years since we fought shoulder to shoulder with our Vietnamese allies. After the fall, refugees were forced to flee their homes with whatever they could carry. It is important to recognize the resiliency of the Vietnamese people. I grew up with Vietnamese Americans who came to this country for a better life. Today, my home, Orange County, is home to the largest Vietnamese population outside of Vietnam. I ask my colleagues to join me in honoring the sacrifice of those who fought for freedom, democracy, and opportunity. ____________________
