Washington Republicans have already cut billions from health care, public safety and food assistance for New Yorkers – and now their cruel, senseless cuts are sending us spiraling toward a federal shutdown that will harm workers, small businesses and families throughout our state and across the nation.

Cutting $187 million, defunding our police and fire department here in New York City to protect us from possible terrorism attacks? My God, you can’t make this up.

This is the birthplace of freedom, and I think medical and health care freedom is central to those tenets of what we need more of in this country.

If Lady Liberty’s iconic torch goes dark, it will be thanks to the Washington Republicans who refused common sense and abandoned the people they were elected to represent.

And now we realize that they’ve decided to put their own interpretation of proper culture ahead of our needs, the needs of a nation.

I do not want you to be guided by someone like RFK Jr., who I believe is wholly unqualified to give medical advice and who is restricting our freedoms.

The irony, the paradox is by shutting the government, we’re actually giving Trump more power. And that was why I voted yes.
