The problem is I think this is based on the false assumption that the government would do a better job of handling consumer data and credit reports than the private sector does.

Let me tell you, I am from Texas, and we take the right to privacy very seriously, like we all do, and the more information we have out there the more likely a bad actor is going to gain access.
