Dr. Tamayo was a distinguished cardiologist and a committed patriot during a pivotal moment of that country in its fight for democracy. He was elected as vice president in the first national elections after the fall of the Trujillo dictatorship. His service alongside President Bosch in 1962 to 1963 symbolizes a time of great hope and transformation for the Dominican people. Though their tenure was cut short by a coup, their legacy remains.
