Madam Speaker, Americans for the Arts' research has shown that over 100,000 nonprofit cultural organizations in the United States generate over $166 billion in economic activity each year, supporting jobs and generating government revenue. {time} 1640 I want to thank my chairwoman, Representative Slaughter, for introducing this important resolution, and once again express my strong support for House Resolution 1582, which honors Americans for the Arts on their 50th anniversary. The question is on the motion offered by the gentleman from Colorado (Mr. Polis) that the House suspend the rules and agree to the resolution, H. Res. 1582. The question was taken; and (two-thirds being in the affirmative) the rules were suspended and the resolution was agreed to. A motion to reconsider was laid on the table. ____________________
