If we don't have a solution to the kids that are showing up to kindergarten having heard 30 million fewer words than their more affluent peers, if kids don't have a choice of a school that any of us would send our kid to, and if higher education continues to accelerate in its cost so that if you're in the bottom quartile of income earners, to go to college it costs you 85 percent of your net income, whereas if you're in the top income, it's 15 percent--you add all that together, and our system of education is reinforcing the income inequality that we have and the opportunity gap that we have, rather than liberating people from it.
