General Amos, how will the Marine Corps be able to meet these extensive and costly war-related funding needs within the normal DOD budget which is only projected to grow about 4 percent in fiscal year 2010?

The demands of nearly 8 years of sustained combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have placed an enormous burden on airlift assets.

To my knowledge, no firms have been sanctioned under the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) since its enactment in 1996.

However, the plan was not developed in conjunction with the Adjutants General, and its effect is, I think, to commandeer the aircraft from the Air National Guard without consulting the affected State Governors.

I have heard mixed statements that, depending on where you are, the quality and the expertise in some of the private tutoring differs.

I think it is critical that we understand and look at helping to turn around our lowest performing schools.

Have you seen successful models that solve that truancy problem in middle schools?

We can no longer continue to allow chronically under-performing schools to get away with improperly serving our students.

I think several of us have sent letters, but it's certainly something that's of concern, I'm sure, to the States that are affected by this.

I think those are extremely important and not only for our Nation, but certainly for our servicemembers.

North Carolina is obviously one of the States that is affected. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by overmatch.

I strongly believe that we need to do a better job at acknowledging that while our students are in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade, we need to acknowledge that before it is too late.

I just got back from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan while we were over there. They certainly do carry quite a bit.

When you were talking about the KPP and the vehicle, what's been done so far?

DOD has devoted significant resources, I know, to the development of the fifth-generation strike aircraft that are intended to operate in environments with significant and advanced air defense systems.
