Members of this community know how essential it is that our Nation's Tribal lands are not bypassed when broadband networks are built across the Nation.

I think the important thing about this hearing is to have an understanding that you are going to work together.

Most people probably cannot imagine life without a telephone. Yet today more than 30 percent of households in Indian Country do not have access to basic telephone service.

What happens there as far as the families and their health impacts? What is recommended?

There seems to be value in collecting those royalties, and also other forms, financial mechanisms such as bonds.

Does the Tuba City open dump site pose a threat to drinking water of the Navajo Nation or the Hopi Tribe?

Not having a land line or cell phone reception can mean the difference between life and death.

And really what we are talking about is a community, a Navajo community of some size, for the Navajo Nation, pulling groundwater from the aquifer there right near Crown Point, which is fairly good water, is my understanding.

And I assume if it grew large enough then you would just make an additional request for additional funding to try to make sure that we got the job done on this.

I think Congress enacted, in 1986, a settlement Act between the Department of the Interior and the Tohono O'odham Nation.

If H.R. 2938 is not enacted and the Nation is able to move forward with their proposed plans to open a fourth casino, current gaming compacts could be nullified.
