I am saying if we are going to increase production in the United States, shouldn't we keep it in the United States to be able to help the American consumer and American businesses?

If we are going to increase production, American people are hitting $4 a gallon, some places higher.

A lot of conversations about who is to blame for high gas prices, anyone that truly believes that President Obama or Secretary Chu or Speaker Boehner or Congressman Lujan wants higher fuel prices for the American people, it is not true.

I think my people would like to make sure that the Treaty of Guadalupe de Hidalgo be honored, and that our traditional uses of herb gathering, wood cutting, hunting, the grazing, that all that be protected for us with this bill.

I think that if we are able to work together, there may be a way to pull a lot more support.

The local people, the land grant areas, also are very supportive of this legislation. They do not want to see their land, their common lands, up for exploration of businesses or for these lands to be sold.

We know that the price of oil is set on a world market and that changes in our own domestic oil production do not have a major impact on the price of oil on that market.

Senator Bingaman and Senator Murkowski have really outlined the problem that is on the table to be addressed in terms of where gasoline prices are now and the pain that they're causing for motorists and consumers.

I am a strong advocate of efforts that encourage private sector job growth.

While I appreciate the intent of my fellow Congressman, Mr. Labrador, his bill is a good beginning to a conversation on how to address the backlog of grazing permit renewals.

We do not face cycles of high gasoline prices in the United States because of a lack of domestic production or a lack of access to Federal resources or because of environmental regulations getting in the way of us obtaining cheap gasoline.

As Senator Bingaman has said, U.S. oil production is at its highest level since 2003.
