No doubt you have good intentions, Mr. Secretary, but you do not have the legal authority to do this. I strongly urge you to abandon this flawed scheme.

Should we be able to withhold school improvement resources?

Last month, the GAO released a study that I requested, along with former Ranking Member George Miller and Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers, on segregation in public schools K-12.

And then supplement and not supplant would mean that you would have to supplement over what your legal obligation is, is that right?

We cannot go back to the days when the Federal Government dictated national education policy. It did not work then and it will not work now.

Every child in every school deserves an excellent education and the only way to achieve that, though, is to restore State and local control.

As I indicated, since the Brown decision, there is a constitutional responsibility to provide an equal educational opportunity.

It assumes you guys do not know what you are doing and that is really frustrating.

Those are where the concerns are coming from.

As we move to a system that pays for value, not volume, this growth threatens the gains our country has made in helping to drive down health-care costs.

I would caution this Committee to be very careful in the way it words its censure resolution.

This IRS targeting scandal was nothing short of shocking. It was a political plan to silence the voices of groups representing millions of Americans.

It is clear that our Founders believed that the free expression of ideas are integral to the wellbeing of our Nation.

The Constitution sets forth a system of checks and balances, which grants each branch of government tools to ensure that no one branch of government attains too much power.

I believe that is a negative long term.

I would just urge you that this is going to be an area that is going to exponentially grow in importance.

I would hope you would move forward with that.

I think there is an increasing consensus among CEOs... that this is long-term destructive to real value creation in business.
